Wife of Turkish Prime Minister praises the role of Islam in supporting women rightsFeb 26, 2013 - 06:57 -
WAM Sharjah, Feb 26th, 2013 (WAM)--Emine Erdogan, wife of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that Islam protects the women rights.
The statement was made during a visit to H. H Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, at Al Badea Palace Sunday evening. Jawaher discussed with Emine Erdogan ways of strengthening relations and enhancing the role of women in society.
Emine Erdogan, in her first visit to the Emirate of Sharjah, coincided with the Government Communication Forum (GCF 2013), which was attended by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The meeting was attended by Sheikha Aisha bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Deputy Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club, Sheikha Hour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation.
Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi introduced the deep-rooted history of the UAE to Erdogan, paying tribute to the role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May Allah rest his soul in peace), as the founder of the country and the first supporter to women rights. She said: "The late Sheikh Zayed gave the right for women to participate in work on an equal basis with men. It is our turn now to continue the progress, fulfil our duty in serving our nation, meet the needs of community and protect the rights of each individual, women in the UAE has the right to participate in all fields".
She added: "I am proud to say that the UAE preserves its Islamic and cultural heritage despite its development on the global level".
The wife of Turkish Prime Minister visited tourist and heritage attractions in the Heart of Sharjah area, as well as the Sharjah Ladies Club.
The visit programme of Turkey's First Lady included Souq Al Arsa in the Heart of Sharjah project, a prominent historical and tourist landmark in the city, where she acquainted herself with the history of the area. The guests then headed to the Sharjah Ladies Club, the city's premier sporting destination for girls and women and inspected its various facilities and activities before wrapping up their tour in Al Badea Palace.
Erdogan and her daughter expressed their delight and satisfaction at visiting the Emirate of Sharjah as they were impressed with the warm welcome and hospitality they received from Sheikha Jawaher and the daughters of the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikha Bodour and Sheikha Hour Al Qasimi. They expressed their admiration of the city of Sharjah, its tourist landmarks and state-of-the-art facilities, especially the Sharjah Ladies Club, which offers high quality services to the Emirate's girls and women.
Both Sheikha Jawaher and Emine Erdogan are advocates for human rights and woman rights. Emine Erdogan helped raise funds to contribute to the Pakistan flood relief in 2010. Meanwhile, Jawaher presented all her nine foundations and their branches across the Emirate of Sharjah and, also, the charity campaigns that aim to develop the role of woman and family in community.
