2012-08-18 17:36:56
WAM Abu Dhabi, 18th Aug. 2012 (WAM) -- The UAE has won praise and commendation from leaders of international and Jordanian relief organisations delivering medical care to Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Dr. Mohammed Al Hadid, Chairman of the Jordanian Red Crescent, said during a tour of the Emirates World Mobile Humanitarian Hospital, that the UAE, under the able leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, set a bright model of medical assistance and collective team-working through its launch of the the world-class mobile hospitals.

He noted the UAE was among the first responders to humanitarian appeals to alleviate suffering of Syrian refugees through delivery of combine free of charge curative, surgical and preventive services.

The Jordanian top aid worker, who was briefed by UAE Cardiologist Adel Al Shameri, Director of the Hospital, about various units of the hospital, lauded what he had seen as a ''qualitative leap'' in medical relief.

The field hospital houses mobile state-of-the-art specialist clinics with Emergency Medical Unit (EMU), Outpatient and Inpatient Services, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), surgery theatre, pharmacy, and an integrated laboratory.

Al Shameri noted he had sensed the direct interest of representatives of international relief organisations taking care of Syrian refugees in coordinating and cooperating with the UAE humanitarian agencies with the aim of drawing lessons from the UAE proven humanitarian and relief experiences.

Andrew Harper, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Jordan, credited efforts the UAE medical team is making to assist Syrian refugees but stressed the importance of joint UAE-UNHCR cooperation to develop an action plan to reach out to various refugee camps.

A team of 70 Emirati-Jordanian doctors, health professionals and technicians, administrators and volunteers are jointly running the mobile clinics, which launched yesterday.
