WAM Dubai, Aug 06th, 2012 (WAM)--Dubai Customs has recently marked the completion of its summer training programme, involving 50 secondary school and university students.

The programme was aimed at offering these students the opportunity to acquire several skills and link their academic knowledge to professional life.

Every year Dubai Customs receives a large number of secondary school and university students, who are trained and prepared to handle real-world challenges, to serve the community, boost their sense of responsibility and punctuality, while introducing them to customs work, and highlighting Dubai Customs' role in protecting the society and developing the national economy.

The underlining goal of the training is to foster scientific and practical thinking, better planning, organisation and performance, and to nurture the positive behavioural attitudes, such as cooperation and teamwork.

Nadia Abdullah Kamali, Acting Executive Director of HR, Finance and Administration Division, confirmed that the summer training program allowed many trainees to gain experience, as they were introduced to the nature of customs work and how to handle partners of trade companies and shipping and clearing agents.

She indicated that Dubai Customs has been keen on organising similar training programs for the students throughout the previous years, in adherence to its strategy which focuses on community service, supporting the UAE national youth, developing their competencies and preparing them for the future. The trainees were assigned to different customs divisions, departments and sections to help them get closely acquainted with the nature of customs business.

Kamali stated that the summer training program contributes to preparing the trainees to work in government organizations and entities as well as the private sector, as they gain sufficient information about the nature of work in these organisations. Moreover, the summer training program provides students with new information and expands their knowledge.

She added that Dubai Customs is keen on organizing such annual programs, given their importance in making productive use of the free time of the students, as these programs prepare them mentally and practically to enter the professional life and handle future responsibilities.

On their part, the trainees commended Dubai Customs' role in facilitating legitimate trade movement and protecting the society from prohibited and fake materials and goods. They thanked all Dubai Customs employees for what they offered to them during their training and for helping them acquire appropriate job skills.

At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Sheikha Al Ghafri, Senior Manager of Customs Training Centre, and Abdullah Al-Arrah, Manager of Inspection, handed out participation certificates and monetary rewards to the trainees.
