WAM Abu Dhabi, Jun 27th, 2012 (WAM)--H. H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has said that the UAE leadership and people were keen on easing suffering of Yemeni people caused by the food shortage.
He added the move reflects the historic fraternal ties between the two peoples, expressing the concern of the UAE leadership about the food gap in Yemen. "The suffering of our people in Yemen gets worse day by day due to the food insecurity that poses threat on the lives of millions there. The situation requires immediate concerted regional and international efforts to curb the suffering and improve the lives of people there." Sheikh Hamdan said in statement ahead of the launch of the RCA humanitarian campaign to support people of Yemen, that the UAE under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, earlier realised the looming catastrophe that threatens the lives of millions in Yemen, hence the UAE President launched the initiative to donate Dhs500 million to provide food for the needy in Yemen.
He added the RCA campaign, which will be launched on Friday, complements the state's efforts in this respect, and in solidarity with brothers who are facing dire humanitarian conditions.
Sheikh Hamdan called on all sectors of the community to support the efforts of the RCA, urging Emirati and expatriate philanthropists to support the RCA humanitarian campaign.
