EU Election Assessment Team to be deployed for Libya elections

WAM BRUSSELS: The European Union's (EU) Foreign Affairs Chief, Catherine Ashton, today announced the deployment of an EU Election Assessment Team to Libya to observe the National General Congress elections.
"The Election Assessment Team will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the upcoming electoral process, a process full of challenges after so many decades of authoritarian regime," said a statement issued by Ashton's spokesperson.
The mission, led by Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, Member of the European Parliament, is composed of 21 experts who will be deployed gradually throughout the country, starting today, and will remain in Libya upon the completion of the whole electoral process.
