Agreement for rationalising power and water usage in sports clubs reached

May 29, 2012 - 11:37 -

WAM Dubai, 29th May 2012 (WAM) -- General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare signed today an agreement with 22 sports clubs and youth centres on rationalistion of water and electricity usage.

The understanding aims to regulate and economise consumption of water and electricity at these sports facilities to match allocated funds and scale of activities of each sport club and centre.

The agreement followed a memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Finance, Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) and General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare on consumption of water and electricity in sports sector for fiscal year 2012. Under the MoU, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare is demanded to transfer the financial support earmarked for water and electricity consumption in its member sports clubs directly to FEWA according to assigned quotas through monthly claims.

Each club will sign the agreement with the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare where a mechanism for regulating and paying consumption of these services will be worked out.

Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Secretary General of General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, said the Federal Cabinet had given instructions to competent authorities to examine the issue of arrears of water and power consumption of clubs.

He unveiled that about AED20 million in those arrears will be paid.
