DM - WSPA sign MoU on joint activities in animal welfare

WAM Dubai, May 24th, 2012 (WAM) -- Dubai Municipality and World Society for the Protection of Animals have decided to join hands in various activities in the field of animal welfare. It was announced by Eng. Salah Abdul Rahaman Amiri, Assistant Director General, Dubai Municipality, after he signed on a Memorandum of Understanding between the parties.

"Dubai Municipality has always taken much interest to switch itself into various activities rendered by international bodies in the field of environment. Indeed, animal welfare was one of them," said Eng. Salah.

"Given the Islamic principles on how to be kind and friendly with animals, it has been always one of our prime concern. Moreover, as the civic body of Dubai, we are looking in to the subject in a public health and safety perspective," he added.

CEO Michel Baker signed the memorandum on behalf of WSPA's.

He said the society is a non -profit organization working under United Nations and European Council of Organizations for the welfare of animals worldwide.

"we are interested to provide technical support ,training and activity tools to various governmental and non- governmental groups who are committed themselves in the field of animal welfare," he explained further.

The Veterinary Services Section under Public Health Services Department at the civic body has been in collaboration with WSPA right from 2000 on several activities. As per the new move, the Society will be providing the department workshops and training in animal breeding and in projects regarding animal welfare. Supply of some equipments also comes under the agreement. Both parties will exchange studies, researches as well as technical expertise to accelerate and widen the activities in the field.
