UAE-chaired 14th Arab conference of heads of traffic chiefs kicks off

WAM TUNIS: The 14th Arab conference of heads of traffic chiefs on Wednesday commenced in Tunisia under the chairmanship of the UAE.

The UAE is represented to the conference by a delegation led by Brigadier Ghaith Al-Zaabi, head of traffic coordination at the Interior Ministry.

In opening remarks, Al-Zaabi stressed the need for improving behavior of motorists and pedestrians in order to reduce traffic accidents.

He also urged for better coordination and cooperation among relevant authorities to find the best solutions to minimizing the consequences of the problem.

The 2-day conference brings together representatives of Arab states, the Arab League and Saudi's Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) to discuss inter-Arab cooperation on traffic issues including efforts to minimize violations, accidents and the role of the media in promoting traffic awareness.

The UAE will be chairing all meetings by the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers throughout 2012.
