Odour emission being reduced from Al Aweer Sewage Plant: DMMay 22, 2012 - 10:16 - WAM Dubai, May 22nd, 2012 (WAM) -- "Dubai Municipality with its firm commitment to safe and healthy environment protection, sustainable and innovative Sewage Treatment System, has always been keen in improving its system and approach," said Eng. Mohammed Abdulaziz Najm, Director of Sewage Treatment Department at the civic body.
He was explaining about the new task force appointed to control odour emissions from Al Aweer Sewage Treatment Plant in Al Warsan area.
"The assignment of this team comes in line with Dubai's Strategic Directions. They will contain, control and minimize the odour emission from Al Aweer Plant" he added.
Eng. Rashed Karkain, Head of Al Aweer Operation Section added that the team could achieve odour reduction of up to 98% in most parts of the plant by innovative and corrective enhancement to the facility, despite the challenges of the excess load of the plant, compared to its design capacity.
"We could reduce bad smell that creates nuisance to public, thanks to the measures we adopted to assess emissions throughout all stages of treatment. Newly added improvement in chemical treatment facilities ensure 98% increase in toxic gas absorption," he explained.
DM claimed that numbers of complaints regarding odour from the plant has dropped steeply by its extensive surveys to measure out the problem and adequately stepping up the plant's technical capacity.
