WAM DUBAI: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA's) on Thursday said it had inaugurated a main 132/11 kV Substation with a capacity of 150 Megavolt Amperes at Al Kafaf in May.

The substation project is valued at Dhs96m and the additional laying of 132KV underground cables, is Dhs10m, for a total of Dhs106m.

"DEWA continues to implement development projects to raise and upgrade the power capacity of its infrastructure, to keep pace with the high growth of demand for its services. DEWA always aspires to optimise its services to achieve the highest levels of availability, reliability and efficiency, helping to strengthen Dubai's position as a global hub for finance, business and tourism. As part of this relentless pursuit, DEWA continues supporting its high voltage 132/11 kV electricity transmission network to meet Dubai's energy needs, " Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD '&' CEO of DEWA, said.

"With a budget of Dhs106m, the project aims to enhance the capacity of DEWA's power transmission grid to Al Kafaf in Dubai. DEWA has laid an additional 4.5km of 132 kV underground cables to connect with the main 132/11 kV Substation in Al Hudaiba and the main 400/132 kV Substation at Al Mirkad in the Bu kadra area. This will definitely optimise its efficiency and reliability and ensure an uninterrupted and stable power supply to all various segments of consumers at all times," Al Tayer added.

"These substations apply and use the most state-of-the-art digital technologies for substations, thus promoting their efficiency and reliability. Our continuous efforts support Dubai's ambitious urban and economic plans. The existing substations in the grid are being developed by increasing capacity and introducing the latest approved world-class technologies.
