WAM Abu Dhabi, April 18th, 2012 (WAM) -- Social media tools can only be viewed and used as means for communication and building contacts. And like any other tool, it can also be misused by the few who intend to do so, commented "Gulf News" in its today's editorial.

"Yet the greatest problem of all, is when such tools are used to spread rumours, false information, inaccurate matters, and abuses against individuals and entities. But how a tool is used should not be dependent on a punishment or its severity.

"Perhaps the greatest role that could be played in a positive way can only be carried out by the very users of the mediums," the paper said.

Hence, users should be careful of what they post and the ramifications it brings with it. No way is this an indication for censorship, self or otherwise.

"Rather, it is a responsibility that each person has to bear when using the public sphere to send out messages, information or otherwise," GN concluded.
