Sharjah Ruler visits Durham UniversityApr 14, 2012 - 05:04 - London, 14 April 2012 (WAM) - His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah today visited UK's Durham University, from which he obtained a Ph.D in Political Geography of the Gulf in 1999.
He was received by Professor Chris Higgins, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University, Professor Robin Coningham, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health, Tim McInnis, Director of Development and Alumni Relations and Professor Habib Ahmed, Sharjah Chair in Islamic Law and Finance in the School of Government and International Affairs.
Sheikh Sultan met with the teaching staff and his former colleagues at the university. He also toured the university's halls and other facilities before a luncheon hosted in his honour by the university.
He discussed with the Vice Chancellor and other officials ways to enhance cooperation between the Universities of Sharjah and Durham.
Sheikh Sultan also visited the Al - Qasimi Building, which houses the Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and met with the teaching staff and students of the institute.
