SEDD concludes Counterfeit Recognition training course

WAM Sharjah , Feb 22nd, 2010 (WAM) -- Sharjah Economic Development Department has concluded a seminar titled "Counterfeit Recognition". Fahad Ahmed Al Khomairi, Head of Censorship and Commercial Control at SEDD, Mudathar Ali Fadhil, SEDD Legal Consultant, and a number of SEDD employees and inspectors from the main branch and Al Thaid, Kalba' and Khorfakan branches attended the seminar.

Participants received expert lectures on market control and counterfeit prevention methods, SEDD's role in protecting consumers with different consumption trends, developing skills of employees concerning instructions and regulations aimed at protecting copyrights of international companies, and the ability to distinguish between original and counterfeit products.

"Seminar participants were encouraged to create a sequential mechanism to identify and regulate violations in the emirate of Sharjah, classify violations according to degree of violation, getting to know range of violations, including commercial commissions, trademark imitation, commercial counterfeiting, violating intellectual pieces of work, commercial control and other violations denoted by customer complaints, such as trademark theft and usage by other parties. Attention was also paid to counterfeit inspection, identification and follow-up and punishing violators according to type of violation at hand", says Fahad Ahmed Al Khomairi, Head of Censorship and Commercial Control at SEDD.

Mudathar Abdullah Fadil, SEDD Legal Consultant, adds "Sharjah has excellent legislational system with the ability to protect its rapid expanding markets and put a stop to violations and counterfeiting according to counterfeit prevention law No. 4 issued in 1979, trademark prevention law No. 37 issued in 1992, and issue No. 18 for 1981 concerning regulation of commercial institutions. Seminar participants, including SEDD employees and inspectors, have immensely benefited from training course, and the course will have positive future influence on their careers".

"Counterfeit Recognition" training course comes in line with SEDD's efforts to prevent commercial counterfeiting and build a strong counterfeit-free market with high productivity, identifying violators and submitting them to specialized authorities. In addition to open the window for the public to cooperate with SEDD to protect the market, investors, shop owners and consumers and attract other markets to enter the emirate as a result of Sharjah's distinct market outstanding regulation system and balanced growth levels.
