UAE finances smart card project in Yemen

Jan 11, 2010 - 12:36 -

WAM Sanaa, 10th Jan. 2010 (WAM) -- The UAE is financing a smart card project in the Department of Civil Status in Yemen.

A UAE delegation led by Nasser Mohammed Al Mazrouie met here today with Major General Riyadh Al Qurashi, Undersecretary of Yemeni Ministry of Interior for Finance and Administration, to discuss arrangements and mechanisms for executing the biometric project.

The Yemeni official said the project would feature establishing an integrated national data base to be run by Yemeni well-trained professionals.

''The smart card will replace all other cards and official documents in future as it will incorporate detailed personal data under one national number for each citizen '' he added.

He indicated that the meeting of the UAE-Yemen committee tasked with implementing the project would discuss the possibility of benefiting from the UAE model.

''The project will be completed in two to three years,''he said.
