Afghanistan neighbours hold meeting in Istanbul

WAM Istanbul, Nov 09th, 2009 (WAM)--Afghanistan neighbouring States held a meeting here today at the sidelines of the Islamic Economic Summit (COMECEC) in Istanbul.

The UAE delegation was chaired in the meeting by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain. The delegation in the meeting also included HE Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs, UAE Ambassador to Turkey HE Khalid Khalifa Al Mualla and UAE Ambassador to Jordan Ali Mohammed bin Hamad Al Shamsi.

Sheikh Saud stressed in the meeting the importance of the joint sustained regional and international efforts to support development and stability in Afghanistan.

He greeted Afghan President Hamid Karzai for his re-election for the second term in office, adding that the UAE would continue supporting Afghanistan in all fields to achieve stability, development, eradicate terrorism and combat drugs.

The UAE also works alongside Pakistan to achieve the same objectives, notably, the eradication of terrorism and development.

The countries, which attended the meeting orgainsed by Turkish President Abdullah Gul, were the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Afghanistan.
