Addressing anti-racism Durban Review Conference, currently in session in Geneva, Al Zaabi said the UAE spared no effort in joining international conventions for human rights, including Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in 1974. "Later, the country joined Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. An article in our constitution provides for fairness, social justice and equal opportunities as key pillars of the society," added Al Zaabi. He indicated that the UAE had recently ratified the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, and enacted federal law 51 for 2006 on combating human trafficking. WAM/MAB |
