Mohammed bin Zayed receives Princess Astrid of BelgiumApr 1, 2009 - 07:14 - Abu Dhabi, 31 March 2009 (WAM) - General / H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces received here today Princess Astrid, daughter of King Albert II of Belgium, who is currently visiting the UAE as part of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM).
Sheikh Mohammed welcomed Princess Astrid and her accompanying delegation. He discussed with her ways to boost bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the healthcare fields.
Princess Astrid, Special Representative of the RBM, briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the scheme which aims at supporting the global fight against malaria, one of the world's three major diseases and the main cause of infant mortality in Africa.
She praised UAE's "unique" experiment in fighting malaria.
Sheikh Mohammed commended Princess Astrid's efforts within the RBM partnership. He issued his directives to provide all forms of support and facilities to the Belgian delegation to study the steps taken by the country in confronting malaria.
The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and chairman of the ZoneCorp, Brigadier Dr Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, deputy chief inspector at the Interior Ministry, Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.
