|  | Lubna Al Qasimi hosts business Banquet for Chicago Economic CouncilFeb 14, 2009 - 07:39 - WAM Dubai, Feb 14th, 2009 (WAM): Minister of Foreign Trade HE Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi hosted today a business banquet lunch in honour of the visiting delegation from the Chicago Economic Council.
The delegation is composed of 20 CEOs and managers representing the finance and investment sectors.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, a number of other senior officials and US ambassador to UAE Richard G. Olson, Jr also attended the banquet.
They also discussed a host of commercial and economic issues concerning UAE and USA and reviewed the international efforts to overcome the global economic crisis.
The progress of woman in UAE and her role in the social, political and economic lives also featured their discussions.
Sheikha Lubna lauded the strong relations between UAE and the US particularly in trade, noting that UAE is the biggest commercial partner of the US in the Middle East. She added that the UAE ranked 21st amongst the global export markets for the US in 2007.
The total value of bilateral trade between UAE and the US reached USD 12.9 billion in 2007. UAE exports to the US rose 38pc from USD 972 billion in 2000 to USD 1.3 billion in 2007, while the value of US exports to the Emirates was USD 11.6 billion in 2007.
