Mohammed bin Rashid receives US Under Secretary of State

Dubai, January 23rd, 2007 (WAM)- The UAE strongly backs efforts aimed at sustaining peace and security in the region, H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has said.

"The UAE strongly supports sincere international and regional endeavours aimed at consolidating security and stability in the region and propagating peaceful discourse and understanding as a prelude to durable peace based on the right of all nations to independence and freedom," Sheikh Mohammed asserted.

Sheikh Mohammed made these remarks when he received this afternoon at the Emirates Towers Nicholas Burns, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, currently on a visit to the UAE.

They reviewed the latest developments in the GCC and the Middle East at large. The US official explained to Sheikh Mohammed the US Administration's stance on the various regional issues and its endeavours to work out durable solutions for them.

Present at the meeting were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation, Chairman of Emirates Airline, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council,, sheikh Mayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and Michele J. Sison, Us Ambassador to the UAE.
