Hamdan bin Rashid Receives Honorary Fellowships

Dubai, Feb. 18th, 2006 (WAM): Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance and Industry has been granted honourary fellowships by Britain's Royal Colleges of Physicians of London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, in appreciation of his invaluable contribution to medical research and humanity.

At a party held at Dubai World Trade Centre this evening, Sheikh Hamdan, who also heads Dubai's Department of Health and Medical Services, was hailed for his lavish support of the health sector in the UAE and world-wide.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, who attended the party, said the honour bestowed upon his brother was in fact an honour to the UAE as a whole, and particularly to the health sector, "given Sheikh Hamdan's humanitarian gestures and continuous support of scientists and medical institutions to come up with solutions to alleviate human sufferings." H.H. Sheikh Mohammad praised the British Royal College of Physicians for its commitment to the development of medical science.

Health Minister Humaid Al Qattami paid tribute to Sheikh Hamdan for his bountiful contributions, particularly his support of medical research and academic programmes aimed at developing cures for hitherto incurable diseases.

Al Qattami said Sheikh Hamdan's Medical Science Award, and Al Maktoum Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies in Dundee, Scotland, stood as vivid examples of his commitment to humanity.

For his part, the President of the British Royal Colleges extolled Sheikh Hamdan for his significant contribution to the research sections of the three colleges. He also praised the UAE for having established medical services and health care facilities comparable to those of the most advanced countries.

Present at the party were Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sharjah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Deputy Ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nu'aimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm al-Qaiwain, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education, Sheikhs, dignitaries, ministers, and senior government officials. It was also attended by senior officials of the three British colleges.
